His Day | A Song From a Dad to His Kids – And Ours!

Hero-05-sing-his-day

Have you noticed a change in Sabbath observance in the general membership of the Church? I have! I see evidence of this change each week. I have noticed more reverence (and more people in the pews) during the minutes before sacrament meeting begins. I have heard children and youth express their understanding of why Sabbath observance, and partaking of the sacrament is important. I’ve seen friends, family, and especially myself change the way we approach the Sabbath Day – as a sign of love for God.

I recently came upon a YouTube video that is an example of the kind of change I’m observing. It is a video of a father singing a song he wrote about the Sabbath – to his children, as they drive to Church. I love it for many reasons!

  • The lyrics describe the many things we “get to do” on the Sabbath!
  • The children are learning to understand the significance of Sunday being His day, not ours.
  • The parents are actively and lovingly teaching their children important doctrines! (And the kids are loving it!)
  • We (everyone!) are invited to learn the song, share it, and sing it with our own children and grandchildren! (I love it when other people’s talents make my life better!)
  • I feel the Spirit when I watch the video. It makes me want to be a better person.

“His Day” lyrics:

1. One day out of each week I put aside to rest.
I gather with my family and wear my Sunday best.
At church I take the sacrament, I learn, I sing, I pray.
This is how I glorify the Savior on His day.
His day is Sunday so I’ll celebrate
By worshipping and honoring the Savior on His day.

2. I read the scripture truths and learn the word of God.
Each Sabbath day’s a gift to me to hold the iron rod.
I learn my fam’ly history and stories of the past.
When I’m ready I will pay my tithing and I’ll fast.
His day is Sunday so I’ll celebrate
By worshipping and honoring the Savior on His day.

3. I take a fam’ly walk or sing a sacred hymn.
I read or watch a conference talk that testifies of Him.
I visit with my relatives or serve a friend in need.
Gather round the dinner table to a Sabbath feast.
His day is Sunday so I’ll celebrate
By worshipping and honoring the Savior on His day
.

I love watching this change for the better sweep over the membership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! I especially feel the Spirit’s approval as I try to improve my own Sabbath observance. I know this commandment has been given special emphasis recently, because we are in need of special blessings.

I love watching videos like this and feeling our worldwide collective testimonies of the Sabbath grow! It’s an exciting time to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!

Enjoy “His Day”!
