Yesterday was wonderful! It was a day of miracles, blessings and the Spirit of God.
It began before I took a friend to brunch, in a short but heartfelt prayer. I asked the Father for help in bringing our mealtime conversation around to the gospel of Christ. I had been to lunch with this friend before and felt that today was the day to introduce her to more of my beliefs. I felt this impression strongly and therefore confidently prayed for guidance from above.
It didn’t take long after we sat down to eat, for my prayer to be answered. Shortly after we purchased our bagels and found a small table, an opportunity was opened for me to ask her about her church. I told her I did not know much about her church and asked her what the core beliefs were of her religion. She told me, and we learned that we shared a lot in common. The door was then wide open for her to ask me similar questions. Which she did…..for the next hour and a half.
For the next ninety minutes, throughout our entire conversation, I felt a sense of power, peace and faith – more than I had ever felt before.
I felt an undeniable power and an unshakable confidence to testify boldly and speak without restraint. I knew we were in a busy breakfast shop, yet I felt we were in a special, spiritual bubble as I related the story of the first vision and many other sacred teachings. I felt the power of God fill my mouth as I spoke. I felt the Spirit of God give me confidence to relate things of a very sacred nature, unashamed and unapologetically. I had never felt that peace and power before. I spoke with a boldness and confidence that was new to me. I knew I was being blessed – for her.
I also felt a new sense of peace and calm as this conversation was taking place. I KNEW we were being blessed from on high, so I did not participate in this conversation as I usually would have – thinking about what I just said and/or what I would say next – instead of what she was saying to me. I knew this lack of conversation skill was a weakness of mine, but it was changed to a strength during this conversation. I had full confidence that I could relax and truly listen to her – and when the time was right for me to speak next, the right words would come, and at the right time. This blessed assurance was new also to me. I knew I was being blessed – for her.
The faith I felt as we spoke was unlike anything I had experienced previously. I felt I was being given an extra gift of faith during that time, and I used it. I knew my mouth was being filled, so I opened it fully and spoke of many sacred, special and wonderful things!
I heard myself speak of not only the first vision, but the visitation of Peter, James and John, John the Baptist and of Moroni. She listened intently, eyes and heart wide open, and asked for more. I heard myself speak of our premortal life, the presentation of the plan of happiness and where we are in that great plan. I was also privileged to speak of the blessings of modern revelation, of the organization of God’s church on earth and of the blessings of the temple and eternal families! The words came out peacefully and easily. She listened with rapt attention. We were being blessed by our loving Father in Heaven, in ways that would change us both forever.
Finally, she asked me, “I wish there was some sort of class I could take to learn more about your church! I wish there was a teacher who wouldn’t mind teaching me all about your religion!” My face broke out in a wide grin as I explained there are almost 90 thousand of these teachers searching for people to share this message with! I invited her to meet them. She vigorously nodded her head and said, “Yes!” Her answer was the same, when I invited her and her family to join us at church the following Sunday.
Earlier that morning, I had a feeling the time was right to share a little of what I knew with this sweet friend of mine. I asked for help in offering her a little information which would touch her heart and shed new light on the true gospel of Christ. What actually happened……was so much more.
“…The time has verily come that it is necessary and expedient in me that you should open your mouths in proclaiming my gospel, the things of the kingdom, expounding the mysteries thereof out of the scriptures, according to that portion of Spirit and power which shall be given unto you, even as I will.” (D&C 71:1)
“…Yea, open your mouths and they shall be filled, saying: Repent, repent, and prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (D&C 33:10)
