In yesterday’s post (Getting Up From That Prayer!) I mentioned an idea that came to me (after praying) to use Facebook to share the good news of the gospel in a way that would have a lasting and strong impact on those who read it.  I tried the idea and, my friends, if it impacted no one else – it strongly impacted me!

Here was the plan (It was easy!  I encourage you to try it too!)

  1. I private messaged many of my friends who were members of the Church, and asked them if they would like to participate in flooding Facebook with testimonies of the gospel. I told them I would be placing a question on my wall at noon which would say, “If you are Mormon – WHY?” and invited them to share why they love our faith! I then asked if they would hit the share button and start the same question on their wall.  The goal would be to share with our non member friends, the joy, truthfulness, and our love for the gospel! Many were eager to participate!
  2. Noon came. I posted the question. I started off the comments with my own brief testimony. I then just sat back, waited, and watched as little by little, testimonies started coming in.  I was filled with the Spirit as I read each one!  I also watched as they shared the post on their own walls and restart similar conversations!

Here are the results so far, the responses continue to come in – even as I type:

If you are Mormon – WHY?

  • April McMurtrey For me….it is because it improves my relationship with the Savior, because it improves my relationship with my family and helps me be a better person. In short, it is the source of all that is good and happy in my life. I am SO grateful for it!
  • Billy Its is true, and makes me a better person
  • Amber  For me it is because I often suffer from anxiety and the gospel gives me hope and makes me feel that I can feel the peace that the spirit brings to me. It has helped me to further my understanding of the atonement and what it means to me personally. It gives me eternal joy and happiness to know that I can be with my family forever. It also challenges me to seek out help when I am in need. I am so grateful for the gospel!
  • Camila  I love this gospel! I love the knowledge of eternal families, I love how happy it makes me. I know that God lives and loves us I know he wants us to become the best we can and I am striving to do that everyday! He is the reason!
  • Chris  I can’t imagine anything greater than being a Mormon. I became a Mormon because a friend in high school shared with me the Book of Mormon and suggested I read and pray about it, and I made the decision to join the church. I’m a Mormon because I know that I’m a son of God, I believe in and follow Jesus Christ, and it is something that blesses my life and that of my family each and every day. I enjoy being a Mormon because of the kind of person it helps me be, and brings meaning and joy into my life.
  • Maricica  My testimony grew when I got married and started my own family. Being sealed to my husband for eternity is a wonderful blessing. I couldn’t imagine living forever and ever with out him! The priesthood and temple has blessed my family in many ways, here on earth and for the eternities!
  • April Honestly, I have gone to a lot of churches and always felt like I needed more. This is the only one that made me feel whole. It had answers to all the questions i had and it all makes sense. I am proud to be a member.
  • Nat  I’m a Mormon because I experience closeness to God and power to grow as I follow the principles and study the doctrines of the Mormon church and as I serve within it. And the view of God that I choose is that He wants me to close to Him, to grow and be like Him and to serve His children.
  • Debbie  I am proud to be called Mormon! I am often asked why and how I can be so happy all the time? I guess that my secret is out! I’m Mormon. I have tried to live like Christ all my life, some days it is easy and others not quite so. I know that Christ died for me and that thru HIS atonement my sins will be forgiven, If I truly repent. I have so many sins that I really don’t know how he can cover them all but I BELIEVE CHRIST and he said that he would do that for me so I know He will. We were sent here to earth to achieve not to fail. If we follow HIM we will achieve! Just gotta love it Hugh! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is HIS church! I know it and I Love it!
  • KayLee I’m a Mormon because the Gospel overflows with truth and there is nothing more wonderful than to be a part of Christ’s church restored upon the Earth. The amount of knowledge I have gotten through revelation of my own and others furthers my understanding of my purpose here on Earth and what will happen in the life to come. Not to mention it answers the burning question of where we come from. I love to know that families can be together forever and all eternity. I think it is so wonderful to be blessed knowing that God has a prophet here on Earth today. I know the gospel is true and have felt the witness of the Holy Ghost declaring it’s truth. I love being a Latter Day Saint, and am so excited to serve a mission and share with whoever I can the glad tidings and infinite truths of our lives here on Earth!
  • Julie  I’ve always said if I wasn’t a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I would seek it out. Why? Because it gives purpose and meaning to THIS life. It fills my heart with pure joy. I know life continues on after death. We have the priesthood of God restored to the earth. I could go on and on, but this I know – the church is TRUE!!!
  • Zarron  I have found that the gospel of Jesus Christ has made my family’s life so much better. There is now a calm in the house that was never there before(for those of you with kids know how hard that is). I have seen it change my older sister a lot and she doesn’t even go to church. This church with the priesthood and. Focus on family is the best thing that could ever happen to a family.
  • April McMurtrey Welcome to the fold, Zarron! The church is now so much stronger because you and your sweet family are now in it!
  • Jennifer I am a Mormon because in a time when I thought I could never be anything of value, because of choices I had made, the Holy Spirit took the time to remind me of my Divine heritage and the price that had already been paid. The lessons taught through the spirit are hard to deny and can only bring peace, comfort, joy and love in life. I am far from perfect, but I rest knowing that there is One who already knows and has walked the path back home.
  • Ronald because all of the real joy I have had in my live has come from following the teachings of Jesus Christ as revealed through the scriptures and the teachings of modern prophets
  • Joanne  I am a Mormon because after 56 years of having this in my life, I am so thankful for the daily guidance and love I receive. I know without a doubt that my Heavenly Father really cares about me, and is always there, 24/7.
  • Donna  Because everything that I already thought I knew was true and it was and continues to be validated every day. Because I have strength, courage, and humility that I never thought was possible and an ability to see others, sometimes, the way our Heavenly Father sees them. The peace and love that envelopes me every time I need it and knowing that Jesus loves me personally……that’s the best there is!!
  • Derrick  I am Mormon because it has been a guide to me in these past few crucial years of my life. There was a time where I wasn’t making all the right choices and i was starting to go down the wrong path, but I had a friend who kept me in the right just long enough for me to decide to stay in the light. I know where I would be without this gospel and what type of person I would be, and it makes me shudder to think of how different my life would be for the worse. Looking at people my age who do not have the gospel and do not live a very moral and rather unintelligent life and seeing all of the trials and hardships that they have to now go through because they made dumb mistakes in life because did not think of the consequences only reassures me that I made the right choice in keeping to my faith. The gospel is true, and I am willing to say that with full confidence. I have seen too many blessings and miracles to say otherwise. Our Heavenly Father is real, and He loves us and blesses us all.

I felt the Spirit all day as I read these testimonies of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, modern prophets, temples, the power of the priesthood and the truthfulness of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I would find it difficult to believe that ANYONE who read these posts, would not feel similar.

Not only did these friends of mine post their testimonies here, but they went on to share the post on their wall and began similar testimony strings!  So, yesterday, with the help of friends and family, many of those not of our faith, were exposed to our love for, and belief in, Christ’s true and living church!
But it was my own testimony that was likely strengthened – the most.
