PROCLAIMING THE PROCLAMATION!
The world has devalued the family. We treasure it.
The world is searching for truth. We have it.
The world needs what we know –
We must tell them!
My recent, personal quest has been to do all I can to hasten the work of salvation and it seems as if I am not alone! It appears that the hearts of LDS members have been set ablaze with the desire to share the gospel! Missionaries are flooding the earth – both full-time, and part-time! Member missionaries all over the world have taken it upon themselves to find, share, teach and invite! In my opinion – the timing is not coincidental.
The time is now to answer the questions of those who seek them!
The time is now to share what we know, so others may receive the blessings of the gospel!
The time is now to build the kingdom of God and gather Israel!
The time is now – to have conversations with our friends – and tell them what we know.
At some moment in the world to come, everyone you will ever meet will know what you know now. They will know that the only way to live forever in association with our families and in the presence of our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, was to choose to enter into the gate by baptism at the hands of those with authority from God. They will know that the only way families can be together forever is to accept and keep sacred covenants offered in the temples of God on this earth. And they will know that you knew. And they will remember whether you offered them what someone had offered you. (Pres. Henry B. Eyring)
Tell them the truth!
Answer their questions!
Invite them to come unto Christ!
Show them how families can be blessed!
We must prepare ourselves for these conversations. One way to do that is to study The Family: A Proclamation to the World. In this document we discover God’s answers to many of the world’s questions about what we believe. Such as:
1. “Do you hate homosexuals? If not, why don’t you support the marriage of same-sex couples?
“WE, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.”
2. “Evolution has been proven based on scientific research and study. So, why do you still believe in the creation theory”
“ALL HUMAN BEINGS—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.”
3. “What is a ‘sealing’? Do you think I see my loved ones after this life?”
“IN THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.”
4. “Why do Mormons have so many kids? And why is it wrong to be intimately involved with someone outside of marriage, if you really love them?”
“THE FIRST COMMANDMENT that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.”
5. “Abortions are not wrong. In fact, they are the right thing to do if the mother is not ready to bring a child into the world.”
“WE DECLARE the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan.”
6. “The daycare does a better job at raising my child than I do. Taking care of small children is so difficult! How do you find the strength to keep going?”
“HUSBAND AND WIFE have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.”
7. “Why is the FAMILY so important to Mormons?”
“THE FAMILY is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.
8. “Why are you so old-fashioned in your gender roles? If mothers and fathers both worked, their children would be much better off. Aren’t you being selfish by being just a one income family?”
“By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed.”
9. “Your views on “family values” may work for you, but they don’t apply to me. I’m happy with my lifestyle.”
“WE WARN that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.”
10. Even if I did decide to live the way God has commanded, what difference would it make? What could I possibly do to change things?
“WE CALL UPON responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.”
I add my testimony to those of our first presidency and council of the twelve apostles. I, too, testify that the family is central to God’s plan for happiness! I know that living by every precept in this proclamation, our families will be greatly blessed and we will discover happiness beyond measure.
Our Savior needs the members of His church to help bring ALL God’s children unto Him.
He needs us to share this proclamation, and our testimonies of it, with our friends and neighbors.
The time is now to bring the gospel
and it’s message for families,
to all the world…
One member at a time.
