My neighborhood seems different lately. It looks different. Or maybe I’m just seeing it differently? As I look around, I can catch glimpses of the hastening of the work of salvation – in action! Everywhere!
Our main street seems like more than just a street when I watch two elders ride their bikes down its paths. It then becomes a sacred road to where a lesson will be taught to ears who are yearning to hear it.
As I see teenagers file out of seminary in the morning, it seems as if they are doing more than simply preparing to go to school. It seems as if they are a literal army of Helaman who had just clothed themselves with the armor of God and who are now preparing to shine, defend, befriend and invite as they head into the world for the day.
The homes next to mine seem like more than just other single family residences. They seem like divinely placed homes, waiting for our knock.
Glimpses such as these are everywhere and frequent! I am sure you have seen them too!
I feel excitement when I see the work in action! This wonderful worldwide effort seems to have somehow become a part of me. I embrace it with all I have and love it with all my heart! I feel as if I almost belong to it. I accept the prophet’s call for a more strenuous member missionary effort and feel it an honor to be on such a sacred and important errand for the Lord!
These frequent and increasingly clear glimpses of ”The Work” gently reset my focus. They return my priorities and vision to that of an eternal nature. I would like to share some of these recent evidences with you.
In just the past few days, they have included the following:
I saw 2 of my son’s friends, now converted to the gospel, bless and pass the sacrament.
I saw a recently converted friend of my daughter sitting next to us, and another friend, now investigating the church, sitting next to her.
I saw 4 converts approach the pulpit to bear testimony of the truthfulness of this gospel – and publicly thank the Lord for sending 2 young men, with nametags bearing the name of the Savior, to their door.
I saw a small box on the table in the church foyer, emptied and filled weekly with Book of Mormons with a sign which reads, “For all member missionaries – Take One!”
I saw fliers on the church doors for upcoming firesides designed especially for our nonmember friends.
I saw a sweet primary child pray for each of the 4 missionaries serving in our ward – by name.
I saw a picture sent through email, of 2 children dressed in white, who my son just baptized two days earlier.
I saw my husband read “Preach My Gospel” to our family during family scripture time.
Then I saw him kneel and pray for each of our missionaries by name, and their investigators.
I saw my daughter hear and heed a prompting to invite 2 friends to mutual.
I saw them both eagerly accept.
I saw two elders, prepared and filled with the Spirit, sitting on my couch testifying to my new friend that they were sent by God - to her.
I saw her eyes fill with tears as she testified that she knew she was a beloved daughter of God and that the message they shared with her – rang true.
It is 6:00, I see the alarm clock blinking, which every day reminds our family – and each family in our ward – that it is time to drop everything and pray for our missionaries by name.
It is time.
It is time to pray!
It is time to not only pray for our full-time missionaries, but for all member missionaries around the world! As we all work together, this wonderful gospel will be heard by every nation, kindred, tongue and people!
It is time to work!
It is time for us to get our hands wet and our feet dirty in the work of salvation! It is time to bring ALL who will hear, into our homes and our churches to hear the message of the restoration!
It is time to see!
It is time to go looking for those who are looking for us!
It is time to keep our eyes open to the glimpses of ”The Hastening” which are all around us, for it is truly happening – NOW!
It is time to see the hand of the Lord
as He hastens His holy work.
